How to Manage Your Heel and Arch Pain
Heel and arch pain can prevent you from getting out of bed in the morning and doing the things you enjoy. But you can't let foot pain keep you down.

Heel pain from inflammation (swelling) is called plantar fasciitis. The pain is usually worse in the morning, but it can continue to ache throughout the day.
Another source of heel pain is heel spurs. Heel spurs are unusual growths on the bone located at the bottom of the foot. Heel spurs are not always painful, but they can be. They are more common among people with flat feet or low arches.
Achilles tendonitis, swelling of the Achilles tendon, may also cause heel and foot pain. This is most often caused by overuse.

Heel pain from plantar fasciitis can be managed with a series of at-home therapies. First, applying ice or massaging the affected area with ice can reduce the swelling and the pain.

Stretching the foot, ankle, and calf can relieve heel pain and may prevent it from coming back.
Arch pain is also caused by plantar fasciitis. If the inflammation is closer to the center of the foot you'll notice pain in the arch. Arch pain can also be caused by fallen arches (flat feet).
In some cases, pain from a fracture or tendonitis can spread to the arch as well.

Managing arch pain is similar to managing heel pain - rest, ice, and stretching. Changing your shoes or getting orthotics may also relieve arch pain, especially if you have flat feet.
Foot pain is more common among athletes and overweight individuals because there is more stress to the foot.
